2021: a year for new beginnings and new trends. We can’t wait to see what eyewear styles will become popular this year, and in fact, we’re so excited that we made a few predictions on what the hottest trends will be this year. Check out six styles that will become must-haves in 2021.

Blue Light Eyewear

As we roll into 2021, most of us are still working from home, which means more time staring our computers and phones. From Zoom meetings to scrolling on social media, we are constantly exposed to harmful blue light emitted from screens. One of the most popular trends we expect to see in 2021 is more interest in blue light-blocking lenses, like BluTech.

BluTech technology helps filter out harmful blue light, which means less eye strain and headaches, ultimately helping with a better night’s sleep, too. We offer BluTech at Oxford Eyes, so make sure to ask about adding BluTech to your lenses at your next appointment.

Transparent Eyewear

Clear, transparent frames have become stand out pieces in our client’s wardrobe, and even on the runway. Because you can wear them with practically any outfit, transparent frames are going to be a staple in 2021. If you’re still working from home, this style will take your daily casual wear up a notch. And if you’re dressing to impress, transparent glasses will be a chic way to complete your look.

Aviators

Aviators are classic, cool and have been making a comeback for a while now, but 2021 will be their year. The look and shape of aviator glasses are instantly recognizable. If you have a retro style, consider adding in a pair of aviators to your daily look. We carry American Optical aviator-styled sunglasses at Oxford Eyes, including these “Original Pilot” sunglasses. The Original Pilots have been the sunglasses of choice by U.S. military pilots for more than 60 years. They were also worn by the Apollo 11 astronauts, becoming the first sunglasses on the moon! You can bet a pair of these aviators will stand up against whatever life throws at you.

Thick Oversized Sunglasses

In our Fall 2020 trends blog post, we mentioned oversized sunglasses are in right now. We have a good feeling that will continue into 2021. More specifically, thick, geometric styles. Big acetate glasses in various colors are going to stand out in the fashion world and will definitely make you stand out too. Trust us, you’ll look like an absolute queen or king in some hip, oversized frames.

Round Frames

We’re talking John Lennon, Harry Potter-inspired eyewear. Along with aviator glasses, round frames are the instantly recognizable and iconic. Not only do round frames look great as prescription glasses, but they also look great as sunglasses, too. If the perfectly round glasses aren’t for you, there are lots of variations to this classic style.

Thin Metal Frames

So thin, it’s like they’re not even there. What we love about thin metal frames is that they’re more like a piece of jewelry rather than another pair of glasses. You can’t go wrong with silver or gold, but a pair of gold wired glasses will be especially on-point in the coming year. This style is a great blend of cute and sophisticated.
