When purchasing eyewear, it can feel a bit overwhelming choosing exactly what lens features are right for you, especially if you are unsure about all of the options available. At Oxford Eyes, our eyewear specialists are experts in finding lenses that are comfortable and fit your look and lifestyle, and will walk you through all of the options! Below are four lens features we are encouraging our clients to try in 2020. It is the year of vision after all, and the perfect time to prioritize your eye health.

Transitions®  Lenses

Have you ever seen eyewear that automatically adapts to changing light and wonder how exactly that works?

Transitions® lenses darken when outdoors and return to clear when indoors. When a photochromic lens is exposed to UV light, trillions of photochromic molecules in the lens begin to change in structure. This reaction is what causes the lens to darken.

All lenses that adapt to light use photochromic molecules, the superiority of the Transitions® brand is the cutting-edge technology that allows the molecules to constantly recalibrate so the optimal amount of light reaches your eyes whether you are in bright sunlight, under cloud cover, or indoors. There is even a new generation of lenses equipped with breakthrough technology called Transitions®  Signature® GEN 8™ lenses. The GEN 8™  lenses darken outdoors in seconds and return to clear faster than ever for style that adapts at the speed of light!

Transitions® are convenient, stylish and a current eyewear trend! It’s like having sunglasses and regular glasses all in one pair. Stop in to try on our latest styles!

Eyezen Lenses

Do you suffer from eyestrain from working at a computer every day? If so, you need to try Eyezen lenses to combat that issue!

Eyezen lenses are an everyday pair of lenses, enhanced to provide comfort and protection for people who are on smartphones, tablets, and computers for hours at a time. Eyezen lenses help to defend against strain on the eyes from extended use of digital devices. We can all admit that sometimes we are on our devices for long periods of time, this lens is a highly-recommended lens!

High-Index Lenses

Even with a strong prescription, you should still feel comfortable when wearing glasses!

High-index lenses allow people with a stronger prescription to wear a lens that is lightweight and thin. Lenses made of high-index plastic are lighter than the same lenses made in conventional plastic, this ensures more comfortable glasses even if your farsightedness, nearsightedness, or astigmatism prescription is high. Talk to one of our eyewear specialists if you’re interested in learning more about high-index lenses!

Polarized Lenses

Being exposed to the strong Florida sun everyday makes polarized lenses a must!

Polarized lenses have a special chemical applied to them to filter light. The chemical’s molecules are lined up specifically to block some of the light from passing through the lens. Think of it like a mini blind hanging in the front of a window—only light that passes through the blind’s openings can be seen.

As a result, what  you see with polarized lenses are a bit darker than usual, but objects look crisper and clearer, and details are easier to see, just like in the Maui Jim photo below.

Added bonus: people who use polarized sunglasses for long stretches of time often say they are less tired than usual after hours of battling sun glare.
